Faith-Based Approach

Although our services are available to all regardless of religious background, Starlight recognizes that faith is often a key component for an individual's recovery and for motivation to change. Starlight offers a variety of optional faith elements to those we serve. The foundation of all the work of Starlight is our Christian faith. Starlight actively shares Christ with those we meet. Starlight Ministries provides spiritual direction and discipleship through a variety of means:

Van Outreaches
During our weekly van outreaches, volunteers and staff "Take the Church to the Street" through informal conversations. Whether individuals who are homeless or just someone passing through the Boston Common or Harvard Square, we share the love of Christ to all who walk by. It is not uncommon for staff and volunteers to pray and share scripture with those we meet. We conclude our outreach with a worship service which includes singing, prayer, and contextually relevant and understandable preaching.

Tuesday Bible Studies
Starlight staff and friends hold a Bible study each Tuesday morning at our office.

Individual Spiritual Direction
Through the course of continued care and support of those we serve, we bring up issues of faith and help individuals see Christ in the midst of whatever they are going through. Staff also use the Abundant Life curriculum on an individual basis as appropriate.

Christmas Banquet for the Homeless
Starlight partners with The Boston Project Ministries to organize an annual banquet for the homeless. This special time includes Christmas carols, presents, fellowship, and a Christmas message.

Easter Banquet for the Homeless

Starlight Ministries: serving the homeless and helping churches and individuals do the same; "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 NIV
