Wisdom for Urban Youth Ministry
Youth Ministry Summit, Boston, February 3, 2006Links to Selected Youth Ministry Organizations
The Coalition’s goal is not to replace the local church, but to make the local church more effective in the work of rebuilding communities. It seeks to build partnerships with community-based, governmental, and private sector institutions which are also committed to the revitalization of the families and communities in which our youth must be raised. The Coalition’s activity includes: street outreach programs; court advocacy and mentoring programs; economic development; health center partnerships; neighborhood crime watch support; male and female gang interventions programs; suburban and downtown to inner city church partnerships. The Boston Urban Youth Foundation
The Boston Urban Youth Foundation (BUYF) is a community-based organization that seeks to prepare socially and academically disadvantaged Black and Latino youth for college and successful futures. BUYF’ s central mission is “to help young people develop spiritually, emotionally, academically, and economically.” BUYF's organizational structure and programs revolve around key social and educational scaffolds that engage and empower low-income disadvantaged urban youth toward promising educational practices. Youth in the program, once considered truant, attend school more regularly and begin to develop a pro-academic ideology. Most significantly, BUYF graduates are admitted into two and four-year colleges and thrive socially and academically. (http://www.buyf.org)

The Center for Youth Studies (CYS) is a global network of youth ministry professionals committed to developing a comprehensive resource for youth work that is current, relevant, and geared for grass roots application. We believe that holistic ministry with youth, children and families demands a broad collaboration of social systems, organizations and leaders. The systems to which we refer are family and youth, community (both non-profit and for-profit), government organizations, schools, media, church and parachurch youth ministry. Moreover, CYS offers a place where youth and those who care about youth can go for free resources and information tailored to their vocational and practical needs. (http://www.centerforyouth.org)
