Workshops
“[RCCI’s workshops] enabled me to more deeply hear and respond to God’s calling to actively engage in overcoming racism with love, in my own heart and life and in the social structures around me as a follower of Jesus.”
Toward Shalom: Biblical & Theological Foundations for Engaging Race
Do you desire to talk to friends and family about issues related to race? Do you long for language that can help them see that race isn’t just the “liberal” or “political” cause they write it off as but a part of God’s heart?
Are you curious to see how scripture addresses issues related to race and explore how biblical principles can be applied to strengthen multiracial communities?
Would you like a grace-filled space where you can talk about race with other Christians?
Do you desire to respond to racism as an outworking of your faith?
Journey toward shalom with our 6-week workshop series. “Toward shalom” uses biblical teaching, creative exercises, and spiritual practices to help you better understand and respond to the ways scripture speaks into issues related to race today.
It is facilitated by Megan Lietz, with co-facilitation from Bil Mooney-McCoy for 3 of the 6 workshops. Get to know our co-facilitators below.
Next Workshop: Join us for a 6-week series on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 pm from Oct. 30th - Dec. 11th via Zoom. (Note we skip the week of Thanksgiving).

Meet our Facilitators:
Bil Mooney-McCoy: Bil is currently the Worship Director at Gordon College and has served in ministry in Greater Boston for decades as a co-pastor, with Young Life and as a music director for local, national and international events. Bil is the product of an inter-racial marriage and was a high school student during Boston's racially charged busing crisis. From that unique perspective, he has been involved in addressing racial divisions and injustice his entire life.
Megan Lietz: Megan is the Founding Director of the Race & Christian Community Initiative and on the leadership team at Abundant Life Church. Raised in a rural, white community, Megan never imagined living in the city or working toward racial justice. But through 18 years of living and serving in predominantly Black communities, she developed a heart to build shalom across racial lines and help other white people to do the same.
Please note that Megan will facilitate every session and Bil will co-facilitate 3 of our 6 sessions.
Testimonials:
Here is what people are saying about RCCI’s workshops.
"The workshop was thoroughly biblical, historically rooted, and immensely practical. Megan knows what she's talking about because she is living it. I would recommend this workshop to anyone!" - Pastor Ben
"[RCCI's] presentation to our presbytery was very eye-opening and helpful as she brought to light issues of racism present in many churches. It was difficult to have our perspectives and assumptions challenged, but Megan offered a message of hope as we seek to overcome the sin of racism personally and collectively." - Rev. Bill
